Bill Shorten new Minister of NDIS
Here is what we got from Bill Shorten, the new Minister of the NDIS interview on the “Insiders” on the ABC, 12th of June. It will be interesting to see how all this plays out over the next couple of months and years, how much of this proves to be true and what changes come of it.
Involve people with disability as well as service providers in change in NDIS. Particularly with setting fair prices.
Shorten sees the NDIS as sustainable. There seems to be a lot of wasting of funds and overpayment of consultants which will be looked, as well as other issues through the 10 year review that has been brought forward by a year to this year.
NDIS isn’t meant to be the only solution for people living with disability in Australia, so ensuring that the NDIS isn’t the only option for people with disability
Re establishing trust with users of NDIS, this relates to concerns about unnecessary cutting of plans.
Ensuring that personal care service providers have “a minimum level of competence and quality”, this relates to them being qualified in the services they are undertaking
Shorten’s goal is to make the NDIS “the World’s best scheme which is consistent with tax payer value but even more importantly disability could be any of us at anytime why not give people a fair go in life with some modest support”
